The town centre is a sublime mix of architecture from various periods and indeed culture from various origins, orbiting around the heartbeat of the town – Piazza del Duomo – the town square and Cathedral of St Agatha, in a vibrant and sometimes chaotic melting pot.

Mount Etna is Europe’s largest active volcano but don’t worry – the last time lava made it as far as Catania was 1669. Minor eruptions take place on a regular basis, providing a fantastic display for onlookers and in fact footage from some powerful eruptions in 2002-3 was used in the Hollywood blockbuster Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

Getting Here

To arrange a competitively priced pick-up from Catania Stazione Centrale or Fontanarossa Airport simply leave a note in the ‘Additional Comments’ box when you book online and we’ll get back to you to make the arrangements.

From Stazione Centrale di Catania, where coaches and trains arrive from Siracusa, Messina, Taormina, Palermo and Fontanarossa Airport, the next most practical form of transport is a taxi (€10). Otherwise, bus number 427 leaves every hour and travels up the coast. It’s a nice 4km walk but we wouldn’t recommend it with luggage and/or kids!
